America is facing a Mental Health crisis. There are many reasons for this. Covid certainly made it worse. While we address the causes and solutions, thousands of people continue to suffer and die. If they'd get help, lives might improve and death avoided. Mental Health statistics are getting worse at an alarming rate. Some experts call this a silent epidemic.
For the past five years, I've worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor. For me, it is more than a job; it is a calling. I often minister to my clients. Recently, I quit my job with a Drug Rehab Clinic and trained to be a Chaplain. I am committed to continuing my work in Mental Health. My goal is to create an awareness of the many Mental Health problems. As a counselor, I believe you cannot solve your problems until you first admit the problems. There's too much stigma attached to asking for help. and too many people who do not want to talk about troublesome issues. Ignoring and denying our problems does not solve them. My hope is to make others more aware of the seriousness of this epidemic, and that they might consider becoming part of the solution.
Part of my training to be a Chaplain involved completing a Mental Health Coaching program with Light University. In my next post, I'll share some of the alarming statistics we discussed.
Disclaimer. I do not claim to be a Mental Health Expert. I am certified, not licensed. I have a lifetime of volunteer experience working with individuals in difficult situations. I'm a lifelong learner who enjoys taking classes. I strive to always give and do my best. I'm direct and outspoken, sometimes this makes others uncomfortable. I write based on my experiences and you may not always agree with me. That's okay. My intent is to create awareness. If you've looked at my website, you probably already know this. Thanks for reading my blog.
