One Pill Can Kill (ISO)

Have you heard of ISO?

#Isotonitazene is a potent synthetic opioid. It is #500 times more potent than morphine. You can legally export it from China. It is being sold on the black market after mixing with cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, and other fillers. It's popular because it is cheap to make and more potent. It's rapidly spreading across the USA & Canada. Emoji codes are now being used to market drugs, this is especially appealing to kids.

  • In 2021, 106,699 drug overdose deaths occurred, resulting in an age-adjusted rate of 32.4 per 100,000 standard population in the United States. Even more concerning: over #75% of those deaths involved a synthetic opioid.

  • Adults aged 65 and over had the largest percentage increase in rates from 2020 through 2021.

  • Drug overdose death rates increased for each race and Hispanic-origin group except non-Hispanic Asian people between 2020 and 2021.

What is being done about this problem?

Some states are making drastic changes to their current drug policies. They #view ISO as poison. If a user dies from taking the drug, the #seller can be charged with murder.

Others consider it to be a #weapon of mass destruction, predicting that it is going to #wipe out more people than any drug ever used. The DEA has classified it as a Schedule 1 drug, with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. These synthetic opioids currently can only be properly identified after a lab test, so people don't realize they're buying them until it's too late.

My blogs typically focus on sexual abuse but much of my work has been with addicts. Many of them were #survivors of sexual abuse who turned to drugs to cope with the pain. If ISO is as deadly as the experts predict we all need to be more aware. Maybe now is the time for you/us to get involved in the #war against drugs.
